Dance Studio Merchandise: Plan Class Apparel, Recital Shirts and Family Orders
Studio merchandise can serve dancers, teachers and families in different ways. Give each item a clear purpose, then build a manageable order around the studio calendar.

Decide what the collection needs to do
Separate everyday studio clothing from recital keepsakes and merchandise for families. A sweatshirt worn between classes is a different brief from a shirt marking a particular production. The garments may share a logo, but their artwork, quantity and delivery date can differ.
Write down the wearer, intended use and handover date for each item. Include teachers or front-desk staff if they need an identifiable version. Keep performance costumes or any required class uniform specifications in their own brief so merchandise choices do not accidentally replace them.
Keep the first range focused
A small selection is easier for families to understand and for the office team to organize. Consider one main shirt and one layer before adding several similar styles. If a tote or another accessory has a useful role, give it a clear place in the collection rather than adding it only to make the range larger.
Use your past orders and family feedback to refine the shortlist. Ask which items dancers keep wearing, which sizes were requested late and which products were difficult to distribute. That information is more useful than simply repeating last year's total quantity.
Check youth and adult fit separately
Show the exact product and its size chart when collecting orders. An age or a familiar size label may not translate directly between garment brands. If you are introducing a new fit, consider reviewing samples before opening the order to the whole studio.
Compare garment measurements, available colours and the full size range. Youth and adult versions may need different artwork dimensions. Ask how a large back design will work on the smallest shirt before assuming one file size suits every dancer.
Our group size collection guide explains how to collect useful selections. Keep quantities grouped by style, colour and size, with a separate internal record for handing each order to the right family.
Plan artwork around the actual garment
A small studio mark can work for an everyday layer, while a recital design may deserve a larger graphic and the production title. Check how lettering reads on the selected colour and whether garment seams, pockets or a hood affect the intended position.
For clothing intended to be worn during class, review the fit and the feel of the proposed decoration with its use in mind. Explain the movement and layering requirements when selecting the garment. Do not assume a fashion mockup establishes suitability for a particular class or performance.
Lock the recital details before approval
Confirm the show name, year, venue wording and any cast or group names before sending final artwork. Choose one person to gather corrections from teachers and administrators. A single consolidated revision is easier to manage than several competing versions of the cast list.
Agree on the closing date for names and orders. If a new dancer joins later, decide how the studio will handle the request rather than promising an identical additional shirt automatically. Product availability, artwork preparation and the size of a repeat run need to be reviewed.
| Order type | Detail to settle early |
|---|---|
| Everyday studio apparel | Core design, garment fit and how future orders will be organized. |
| Recital shirts | Final wording, participant list, artwork deadline and distribution date. |
| Teacher apparel | Named sizes, identification and the expected workday use. |
| Family merchandise | Clear product choices, adult size charts and pickup arrangements. |
Make the pre-order easy to follow
Give families the selected garment, colour, size chart, design, price and closing date in one place. Explain how payment and pickup will work through the studio's chosen process. Confirm the expected schedule with us before announcing a firm handover date.
Plan time for sorting before the recital or first class. Label bundles by the system your office already uses, check them against the order breakdown and choose a contact for discrepancies. Save the approved proof and product details so the next order starts with a clear reference.
